Mike Cust is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Royal Derby Hospital and Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Nottingham. He has a private clinic and operating session at the Derby Nuffield Hospital. As well as general gynaecology, his areas of special interest include pelvic floor surgery (prolapse), urogynaecology (female urinary incontinence) and menopause.
He trained as an undergraduate at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, London University, graduating MB, BS in 1980. He subsequently trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Yorkshire and the Midlands, gaining membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1986. He spent two years in Research at King's College Hospital London and at the Wynn Institute for Metabolic Research in London, before returning to the Midlands to work as Lecturer at the University Hospital Nottingham and Senior Registrar at Derby City Hospital. He was appointed Consultant at Derby in 1993. He has published over 40 scientific papers and articles, mainly on the menopause, osteoporosis and the history of obstetrics and gynaecology.
